Fittings for your W17

As a supportive service, Small Trimaran Design plans to stock a few of the fittings needed for the W17 that some find hard to locate. Interested W17 builders are invited to email here for more info and current availability, as quantities kept in stock will be limited. Please email to: trimarandesign [at] earthlink.net

These fittings will include:

RUDDER HINGE

This particular hinge is of approx. 2mm thick aluminum and has a sturdy 1/4" (6mm) removable aluminum pin. Weight just 5 ozs or 140g.

MAST HEAD PULLEY

In order for the halyard to descend down inside the wingmast within the forward cavity, a larger than normal halyard pulley is required. These pulleys are custom machined from 1/2" (12.7mm) thick Delrin and are 5" (126mm) diameter overall with groove for a 5/16" (8mm) dia. rope line.

Weight: approx 6oz (170g) as shipped, can be further lightened.

UNDERBEAM LATCHES for W17 AKAS

These are custom made from drawings already supplied to all W17 builders. Each latch is composed of two parts of 2mm laser-cut stainless steel that fit snuggly together similar to a hinge but work more as a latch. Supplied with an 8mm S/S pin to lock them together.

The 8mm shims are not included but are simply laminated from cloth scraps and epoxy, or can be cut from pre-laminated material like G10.

Weight: 4.7lbs (2.15kg) for complete lower latch set with pins.

For preparation and secure mounting, go to the Search box on the Homepage and enter "Hardware Mounting" without the quotes.

MAST PLATE for W17

The rotating mast sits on a ball pin that is mounted in a plate over the main, forward beam. Here is a suitable 14g S/S plate that can be readily mounted for that purpose. Presently the main hole is 5/8" (16) diameter. Although one could enlarge this, it was made for a 5/8" bolt of 3" length as a semi-spherical ball can be created from the head of a 5/8" bolt. This bolt can then be attached with a nut above and below the plate and so require no welding. One 5/8" nut, cut into two of low profile, offers a compact solution. Lock with epoxy.
