Another successful voyage for the W17…

The Ferrari-red W17 has just completed a 300 nautical mile sail between islands in the Philippines, as one of the escort boats for the 2011 Hobie Challenge, a sometimes extreme event over open water, that's held every year for the top sailors in the Hobie16 fleet. Although we don't yet have an official report, here are some early pics from the voyage. The builder reports no problem with the boat over the 8 days at sea but hopefully will have more to say later once he catches up on sleep and work.
First a map of the event. Distances given are straight line—starting top left, near Lucena.

What a backdrop for an early start
off a windy beach! W17 at anchor.

Starting point

The W17 shares a warm island beach as
the Hobie crews enjoy an overnight break.

It's not always so smooth sailing. Here's a flipped Hobie that was thrown on the beach in rough conditions during a previous Hobie Challenge.

The W17 had lots of admirers and
passed lots of inspections ;-)

Dressed in sponsors decals, we think she looks pretty sharp.
